2002 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L
The old cluster had no speedometer, odometer, tach, fuel gage, or temp gage. All the lights worked and the fuse was not blown. I replaced the cluster with a new one. I started the engine and about 10 seconds later I smelled electrical burn smell and saw smoke coming from the cluster. I immediately disconnected the battery. I disassembled both clusters to see if anything was salvagable. Both clusters melted the same exact wire on the printed circuit in the same place. I reasearched a schematic on hmaservice.com. Thier pictures are a little confusing, I think its pin 13 of the L21-3 connector, but it could also be pin 18, 8 or 3. I checked the connector pin and there is no power to it (off, on, or start). Checked continuity to ground and no continuity. All fuses are still good (suprisingly). I dont think the cluster was bad because both shorted at the same pin at the same spot on the circuit board. What would be causing this short? Please help! The schematic is not helping me much.
