Do you mean that if you are sitting still, idling in park and step on the brake, the RPM goes up?

It happens when I press the brake for a full stop. It happens intermittently though but more and more lately

That could be a leak in the Vacuum booster. Have someone else hold the brake while you pinch off the vacuum hose to the booster and see if it idles back down.
