I installed a performance full exhaust on my car. My check engine light came on and so did my maintence required light. I straight piped my exhaust because my catalyic converter was all rusted up. Now my gas mileage is horrible. My question is if i need performance o2 sensors for them to work on the racing exhaust i got. The o2 sensors im using now are the stock ones and i think if they were working my gas wouldnt be so bad or that my check engine light should not be on.

When the catalytic converter is removed the the rear O2 sensor would show an error as it does not meet the requirements. This would trigger the CEL and when this occurs, the fuel consumption would increase.

You need to get the catalytic converter back on.
