Squeaking Noise

My 2002 GMC Envoy is making this squeeking sound, going down the street it does it quite often what could the problem be because it cause everbody on the street to turn and look at my car when I'm coming down the street.

Well based on the fact that I work at a gm dealer I can tell you the idler pulley for your belt may have smoked a bearing. It could also maybe be u - joints. To check u joints remove the driveshaft from axles/transer case and see if they are hard to move. If they seem bound most likely the grease has rusted out or it is missing pins. As for the idler pulley remove the belt and check to see if the pulley has any play or ruff spots when you turn it, if so the bearing is out.

Can you tell aprox where the sound is coming from? Does it change with engine speed? Try this little trick. Start the engine, open the hood and pour a small amount of water on the belt to see if the sound changes. Make sure to wear old cloths and protect your eyes. Water will most likely fling back at you.

Let me know what you find.
