2002 GMC C2500 Transfer case I think

Hello pros, I have a gmc 2500hd with Allison trans. Push button 4wd. I can be driving along running perfect at any speed just putting along and all the sudden, it pops out of gear and makes a "zzzzzzz" sound from I think the transfer case. I let off the gas and it goes back in gear smooth as it can be. It does it every few miles. Anyone seen this problem? I changed the fluid. It was low. Still does it. I have tried unplugging the shift motor and no help.

Are there any warning lights coming on? Have you removed and inspected the actuator?

Thank for responding. No warning light on and are you talking about the shift motor?

The shift motor does work. It will go into 4high and 4 low fine.

Are you certain that the transfer case is the issue and not something with the transmission? Have you checked the linkage to the transmission?
