My check engine light just came on driving less than five miles to my family, it blinked 5x and then solid and theen repeated wht could that be this is my only means of transportation?

Take the vehicle to a nationally recognized parts store. Most of them will scan the computer for free.

If the lght was flashing it means you have a severe misfire that can damage the catalyst. You would need to have it scanned to see which cylinder or cylinders are misfiring. You could have a bad ignition wires, bad spark plugs, plugged up egr port causing too much egr flow to one cylinder? So you would need to get these diagnosed right away to see what is causing the misfire.
