My brake lights won't go off when I turn my car off. I have to disconnect my battery. (drive or reverse). I know there is a small part that I need as my husband replaced it once some time ago. He is gone all week and I don't want him to spend another.

I am also having a great deal of trouble when I first start the car, getting it into gear. I know there is a small part that needs to be replaced, but don't know the name of the part. Can you please help me?

Check and test the brake light switch under the dash on the driver's side at the brake pedal.
