My car shakes. I have a 2002 Ford Focus SE and it shakes really bad when idle. Shaking lessons when accelerating but then resumes when driving (cruise or just not accelerating, braking). I've read it could need new motor mounts - how do I tell? My car place costs $50 just to look at the car.

if the motor mounts look badly cracked and misshapen, also if you place a jack under the sump using a piece of wood to protect the sump and apply a little pressure. you may see any unwanted movement in the mount, they should hold the engine firm, also just check that the base idle is not to low, low idle speed will cause engine vibration as well.
