How often do transponder keys go bad ad what are the symptoms?

Went car wash and when car came out it would not start.ran fow a few seconds and shut down.everything turns but seems like it is not getting fuel.my friend said it sounds like the key may have went bad.

I doubt that it is the key, possibly water in the electrics from the wash, give it a chance to dry out and if it will not start after a day, try and get a scan done for any unresolved fault codes.
