Slight Knocking/Tapping Noise from the left side of the engine.

Started hearing a slight Knocking/Tapping noise coming from the left side of the engine this morning. Checked the oil and was a little low so i added what was missing. The odd part is that when i rev the engine slightly the noise disappears completely, but when at idle it is so load and obnoxious that something has to be wrong. Any advice or information to point me in the right direction to start would be greatly apprieciated.

Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge-sounds like engine bearings
