2002 Dodge Stratus Overheating and coolant leak

My car started overheating one day and i stopped and realized that i also had a major coolant leak. i have replaced the thermostat and the problem is still occuring. what else could it be and how will i know forsure what it is before i go wasting money on parts i do not need?

How badly did the engine overheat? Has the radiator been flushed. Did you bleed the cooling system after replacing the t-stat?
