Why does my steering wheel lock when I am turning left or right.

When I am turning a corner either from a complete stop or not I will get around the corner and my steering will lock in the direction i am turning. I am unable to straighten it out until I put it in park and turn off the ignition. Once I start it back up I am able to straighten the wheel and continue driving. There is no noise when turning.

sounds like a problem with the interlock in the column.
