2002 Dodge Stratus 02 Stuck Reverse Get Into Drive Park Just Rolls Backwards

My 02 dodge stratus is stuck in reverse. I can not get it into drive or park, it just rolls backwards. I have to have the parking brake on. A friend of mine just fixed the ball joint on the drivers side front tire and had to take the part completely out to fix. That is all fixed now, but now this is happening. I never had any troubles with anything like this before. Any idea what it might be?

If the drive axle was removed may not have gotten seated well and came out check that
