Engine problems

I have a dodge ram 1500 and today it was making a real loud ticking noise and now throughout the course of the day got worse now the truck is barely running what could this be it has cut off twice

And you kept driving it that way? Sounds typical of running it low on oil. At first the hydraulic lifters will clatter. Their purpose is to fill with pressurized oil to adjust and prevent that clatter. That's the first sign that there is an oil problem.

Continuing to drive that way almost surely will lead to the engine destroying itself. If that's what happened, it will need a total rebuild but since there will be a lot of parts inside that got destroyed, a used engine from a salvage yard might be more cost effective.
