When either I back up in the morning, go uphill or turn a corner, I will here a clunking noise coming from axle. Sounds as if coming from rear, but not sure. II reference the sound to a ten speed bike. When you switch from low gear to top gear and the chain has to adjust to fit. Or sounds like pieces trying to lock in place but skipping. But only does it a few times a day. Not every hill or turn

Check rear brakes and clean and adjust. Also, check wheel bearings. In the rear, there isn't much to go bad.

You might check the drive-shaft universal joint too at the differential and trans.

Yes. 2003 Ram 1500 4X4. I have a similiar noise when backing up, and forward movement gives off a tick, tick, tick coming from the left rear side. Positrac limited slip differential. Checked fluid and full but looks dark. Hasn't been changed in a long while. Will the positrac clutches make noises if fluid is old?
