When I turn the ac on the compressor sparks and the belt slips and smokes. I was going to replace the compressor and wanted to know if I needed to change anything else?

WITH THE ENGINE OFF

A/C OFF

CAN YOU TURN THE CENTER PORTION OF THE CLUTCH A FEW REVOLUTIONS WITH YOUR HAND?

IT REALLY SOUNDS LIKE WITH THE A/C OFF ALL SEEMS TO BE FINE

WITH THE A/C ON---THE COMPRESSOR IS LOCKED UP---THE CLUTCH ENGAGES (AS IT SHOULD) THE CLUTCH (AND PULLEY) ARE UNABLE TO TURN BECAUSE THE COMPRESSOR WON'T TURN

ONCE YOU GET THE BELT OFF---DOES THE PULLEY TURN?

THE CLUTCH AND COMPRESSOR ARE 10-11 YEARS OLD......MIGHT NOT BE A BAD THING TO DO BOTH, WHILE YOU ARE IN THERE....THE CLUTCH MAY BE DAMAGED (THE SPARKING, AS IT TRIED TO HOOK UP W/ THE COMPRESSOR)

I'LL HELP YOU A BIT MORE---YOU GAVE ME NO INFO ON YOUR ENGINE SIZE--"CARAVAN" MAY BE VAGUE ALSO--MIGHT BE A GRAND CARAVAN.......IT DOES NOT MATTER I DON'T NEED IT NOW--YOU DO

READ MY LINK TO A JEEP POST

https://www.2carpros.com/questions/1977-jeep-cj7-front-wheel-wont-into-4-low/page/2

ONCE YOU GET IT FIGURED OUT AND A GOOD UNDERSTANDING----REMEMBER ANYTHING OVER $100.01 WASTES YOUR PROMO'S POWER (YOU CAN'T BUST UP A $150 SINGLE PURCHASE, LIKE THE COMPRESSOR BY ITSELF--YOU HAVE TO BUY IT)......IF POSSIBLE, PURCHASE BOTH PARTS SEPARATELY---THIS WILL LET YOU BENEFIT WITH THE PROMO ON THE 2ND LESSER PART, THE CLUTCH (OR YOU CAN GET MORE STUFF TO ADD UP TO JUST OVER $100 ON THE 2ND ORDER AND MAKE OUT LIKE A BANDIT AGAIN! (OILS DON'T COUNT)

YOU GOTTA WEIGH OUT THE BENEFITS OF BUSTING THEM UP VS ONE THAT THE CLUTCH IS INCLUDED COST WISE----IF YOU ARE GONNA "PICK UP AT STORE"----DON'T EVEN LOOK FOR A PROMO CODE W/ FREE SHIPPING.......RIGHT NOW "FABU" IS/ WAS YESTERDAY, STILL WORKING

INSURE YOU SELECT "ADD VEHICLE"--INSTALL ALL OF YOU VEHICLE'S INFO---USE THE SEARCH BOX TO FIND YOUR PARTS OR PART, IF YOU'RE GONNA DO 2 ORDERS----MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE, BELOW THE PART SAYS "EXACT FIT FOR YOUR CARAVAN"---PROMO CODE GETS ENTERED TOWARDS THE END OF CHECKOUT (WHEN YOU APPLY IT--WATCH THEM NUMBERS DROP!)

THIS IS THE SITE I USEIF YOU GOTTA USE ANOTHER STORE---SEARCH FOR PROMO CODES THEY MAY HAVE---I JUST GRAB A NEW TAB AND TYPE IN "PROMO CODES FOR WHEREVER"---THEN I LOOK THRU ALL OF THE HITS, WRITING DOWN THE BEST ONES AS I FIND THEMTHIS WORKS FOR LOTS OF PLACES, NOT JUST AUTO PARTS STORES!

I am on a realy tight budget and was going to a local salvage yard to get the parts. It is a 3.3l v6 in the 2002 grand caravan. I was going to get the compressor with the clutch on it and just need to know if I need to change anything else or if that would be good enough. Right now it is make some noise from either the compressor or the clutch and everything is turned off. Im affraid it might lock up on me and snap the belt.
