when I give the engine gas is doesn't go any faster

I have a 2002 Dodge Durango. Right now I can push my pedal to the floor. Engine revs up but it doesn't gain any speed. The RPMs don't rise. I do know that my transmission has been slipping. Is this also a cause of the transmission?
