I replaced the struts and and shocks and took it for alignment and was told they could not do it because these two things need to be replaced. Before I pay 300 to Firestone, I wondered if I could do this myself?

Of course you can't do it yourself. It requires the use of a $30,000 alignment machine to install them correctly.

The shims are added while the vehicle is aligned. It isn't something to do at home.
