Voltage spike. It is no longer the common sense spring-loaded mechanical pointer. It is positioned by a computer pulsing four magnetic coils. There are three ways to reset it. The easiest is to just drive it faster than half the maximum speedometer reading. If it reads 120 mph max., drive at 65 mph. The pointer will look for the shortest way to "65", and that will be counter-clockwise.
