Problem with tailights burning

My 2002 Chevy Ventures tail light sockets get too hot and one of them is even melting. It wants to fry light bulbs I put in. It's very weird, but mostly unsafe. Where are key areas in which I should look for a short or something else?

replace the assembly. lots of issues with that module set up. we put tons of them in for the same reason.
