A couple weeks ago my gas gauge started bouncing around when I started up. It went up to full then fell back and hovered around half and quivered for a bit. After I was on the road for a while it settled down to what probably was the right fuel level.Fuses all checked out OK. Need some ideas. Thanks.

The float in the fuel tank is attached to a rheostat. Basically that is a resister that sends power to the gauge. Based on how much gas is in the tank, a certain amount of power is sent. Chances are it is going bad. The bad part is this. The float assembly is part of the fuel pump assembly, so it isn't a cheap part and the fuel tank needs removed to replace it.
