start up van clatters?

when you start up van clatters but when you put it in gear it stops was told it was some kind of cover plate its not the engine that's making the noise?

it may be loose converter bolts check and see if they are, if they are loose put blue Loctite on them and tighten them to 55 ft lbs

The flexplate is cracked, this is common, the transmission will need to be removed to fix it. Here is the part that is cracked and making the noise. Check out the images (below). Let us know if you need anything else.
