My sister's 2002 Chevy Venture drives up to 25mph, then the automatic transmission goes to shift into then next gear. For some reason, it gets stuck in neutral for 5 seconds. After those 5 seconds, it drives normally again. What could be causing the failure to shift?

It could be a bad shift solenoid, low pressure from the front pump, a sticking check ball in the valve body, low trans fluid... If the check engine light has come on, have the computer scanned to identify trouble codes. Most parts stores will do it for free. Have that done and the code should point you in the right direction.
