I LIKE TO UNSCREW #1 PLUG TILL IT'S ONLY HANGING BY 1 OR 2 THREADS (STILL IN THE HEAD)
I ROTATE THE ENGINE IN IT'S NORMAL DIRECTION OF RUNNING USING A BIG RATCHET OR PULL BAR (NOT USING THE STARTER AT ALL)
WHEN COMPRESSION STROKE BEGINS, YOU WILL HEAR A "HISS" AT THE LOOSE #1 SPARK PLUG
THIS IS WHERE PEOPLE MESS UP/ ESPECIALLY WITH USING THE STARTER
YOU WANT TO (STILL) TURNING IT WITH THE RATCHET, EASE IT ON AROUND UNTIL THE TIMING MARKS LINE UP ON ZERO, THIS WILL ONLY BE 1/2 A TURN OR LESS, FROM THE TIME YOU HEAR THE HISS
MANY PEOPLE "MISS" AND CONTINUE AROUND AGAIN. DON'T BE ONE OF THESE PEOPLE!
STOP WHEN YOU HIT THE ZERO MARK!
NOW YOU WANNA INSTALL THE DISTRIBUTOR
YOU HAVE 2 OPTIONS
1) STICK IT IN THERE, BUT LINE UP THE ROTOR BUTTON AS IT'S SHOWN IN REPAIR MANUALS SO #1 LOOKS LIKE THE BOOK, THEN USE YOUR FIRING ORDER SEQUENCE (INSURE IT'S IN THE CORRECT DIRECTION!) INSTALLING IT MIGHT TAKE A FEW TRIES DROPPING IT IN TO GET IT WHERE YOU WANT IT
2) STICK IT IN ANYWHERE, WHEREVER THE ROTOR BUTTON WINDS UP- THAT'S THE STARTING POINT FOR THE SEQUENCE, AGAIN, RUN YOUR FIRING ORDER SEQUENCE THE RIGHT DIRECTION
MR. DISTRIBUTOR DOESN'T CARE WHERE NUMBER ONE (#1) WINDS UP, AS LONG AS YOU ARE AT TDC TO START WITH AND YOU BEGIN YOUR SEQUENCE AT #1
'NUTHER WORDS, #1 WIRE (WHERE THE ROTOR BUTTON IS POINTING, WHILE AT TDC AND THE ENGINE HAS NOT MOVED) COULD BE AT ANY LOCATION AROUND THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP
SOME VEHICLES MIGHT REQUIRE TWISTING THE OIL PUMP DRIVE A LITTLE ONE WAY OR THE OTHER IN ORDER FOR THE DISTRIBUTOR DO SEAT ALL OF THE WAY DOWN
LEMME KNOW IF THIS AIDS YOU
I DO HAVE ONE OTHER METHOD, THAT I THINK WOULD HELP, IF WE HAVE TO GO THAT FAR
YOUR TURN
THE MEDIC
