s10 not shifting into overdrive

When driving at interstate speeds, my 2002 s10 gets to where it will not shift into overdrive. It does fine for a while, but after about 40 miles, it does not shift into overdrive and smells hot when driving is complete.

This sounds like the torque converter clutch solenoid is failing when it gets hot. I would start with checking the fluid and making sure it is not burned. If it is then your clutch is slipping.

So I would replace the TCC solenoid if the fluid is burned and change the fluid. However, if the fluid is not burned then just the solenoid would need to be replaced. I attached the info for this.
