I drove a friend's 2002 6cyl Monte Carlo for about 100mi on the freeway in 2nd gear. I was unfamiliar with the car and only noticed when the temp began to go up. The car did not shake or make any odd noises. Once I had downshifted, the temp returned to normal and I drove another 100 mi with no problem. The car does not leak any fluids, does not run hot or have any other obvious issues now. Is it safe to say my stupidity did no damage? Other than terrible gas mileage...?

I would say sounds like there wasnt any damage just a the engine running at a higher rpm and sucking the gas tank down at a faster rate.I hope you fillled his gas tank back up.
