I was told I need the third coil in my 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo. Would this cause my car to eat up more gas. It has been getting really bad gas mileage. Thank you, Joyce Gravener

Yes it is possible. Any driveability issues, I would think you would notice two dead cylinders? You could swap the coil to different location, see if problem follows the coil, if it does suspect the coil.
