my 5.7 liter v8 appears to be leaking antifreeze from the intake manifold gasket on the rear of the engine. is this a common issue with this model? how difficult is it to repair? if its coming from elsewhere what are the most likely sources?

REAL common. That's the first place a mechanic will look when you tell him there's a leak. Replacement is terribly difficult. Be sure to adhere to the torque specs for the bolts.
