2002 Chevrolet Cavalier Trying Replace Cam Shaft Sensor On Chevy 2 2

trying to replace cam shaft sensor on 2002 chevy cavalier 2.2 engine.....removed part (many hour working on it after it broke....dropped exhaust removed right side engine mount strut bracket dropped oil pan.....got part removed have worked on making sure there is no build up from old part using wire brush and emory board a bent mini screw driver ....new part goes in less then 1/4 an inch.....what else do we do to get this part in???

Is it the proper part? You might try oiling the o-ring, see if it helps?
