car loses and has trouble accelerating

Hi guys! I'm having problems with my 2002 Blazer. Recently I took it on the highway, noticed it was accelerating slowly, once I got to about 40mph, it lost all acceleration. Had it towed to a shop, they fixed something to do with the ignition?(Sorry I'm car illiterate). Drove around townfine at first, now has difficulty accelerating from a stop, going up hills, and won't go over 40mph. Seems to regain acceleration when I take my foot off gas and then reapply. Also, when I rev in neutral, only revs halfway on the gauge. Just paid 400 to have it fixed and that kinda wiped me out, please tell me its not the trans:(

Do you have a check engine light and when was last tune-up??

Could be and also one of the following:

Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Crankshaft position sensor
Knock sensor
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing.

The check engine light usually refers to a faulty oxygen sensor. Your description of the problem fits a plugged catalytic converter to a "T". If you can get away with it, for a short period of time, remove the catalytic converter from the system for a test drive and see if the problem goes away.

Also, put a meter across the terminals on the throttle position sensor and see if the resistance changes constantly as the throttle is moved.

Also have the fuel pressure tested at the regulator and at the throttle body. It *might* be a plugged fuel filter.

What kind of fuel do you use in it? Brand name or lowest price whatever? Try putting a tankful of a quality injector and fuel system cleaner (I like Techron best) through it. A clogged injector will normally run fine at idle and just off-idle, but will bog once the RPM gets above 2500-3000.
