I had an issue with my instrument cluster, then a battery drain overnight, then a p0753 code along trans stuck in 2-3 gear with a few others. I just replaced the ignition switch and the battery drain stopped and the trans was working fine. The cluster still didn't work. A few days later the trans went back into 2-3 mode with the same code, no battery drain. the crazy thing is i plugged my code reader in and i noticed all the gauges work when it is plugged in and stop when unplugged.Trans still in limp mode.Does this sound like a ground issue or something, before i replace the shift solenoid? Need help

Yeah it sounds like a ground issue atleast for the instrument cluster issue and possibly your other issues. The scan tool is partialy completling the lost ground.Do you have a multimeter to do some testing?

Let me know what you find i emailed you the wire diagram. You should 2 ohms or less to ground on those ground wires.Check them to ground on the wire not where they bolt up.

Update, I found two black/white wires coming out of the firewall behind the intake manifold, (left of center looking at engine) They are just hanging, I think they were grounded to the block. I connected them to a ground and my gauges now work. Now the p0753 code. Its strange that the ignition switch fixed this and then it starts up again. I have power at the fuse for this circuit.Haven't checked the circuit farther yet.Do you think this is a coincidence or could the solenoid be bad. I am now also getting a knock sensor code. Thanks in advance

Replacing the ignition switch could have very well been a considece that your other problems went away for a little bit.Good job finding that unhooked ground though. So what are the exact code numbers you have now? Also how is the transmission shifting?

I replaced the switch for the p0753 code and the gauges and a bad battery drain issue. I read all of these can be related to the switch. After the switch replacement the truck drove fine, no codes or pending codes, and after sitting overnight the battery was fine the next morning.( i think the switch was letting my auto lights come on at night, a neighbor told me my lights were blinking one night). The gauges still didn't work but the trans was shifting fine and battery was fine. Two days later the p0753 code comes back and now a p0332 knock sensor. the trans seems to be in 2nd and third gear, no first or fourth or overdrive. Works in 123 manually.

So after hooking up that unhooked ground and clearing the codes those are the codes you have and how the transmission shifts?

it is a 4l60E. Do you think its possible that the solenoid could have stuck or something when the switch went bad and it wasn't getting power? I have power at the ign o in the fuse box, thats the first place it goes when ignition turns on. I haven't checked any where else yet.

It looks like it's pointing to the solenoid. The knock sensor code is gone. I have been looking online and am not sure which solenoid is which. Are the 1-2 and the 3-4 solenoid the same thing in a different slot in the trans.I found a pic but that doesn't help much.Do you have a diagram of location and part number.

Just wanted to let you know. I replaced both solenoids and filter while doing it. truck shifts fine. Its just weird that broke at the same time all the trans codes and battery drain caused by the ignition switch. BTW, do you guys have jeep mechanics. My daughter is having issues with her her 2001 grand cherokee?
