2002 Chevrolet Astro Had Starter Put On Now You Turn Ignigtion Will Over Catch

I had a starter put on and now when you turn the ignigtion it will turn over but it will not catch. We thought maybe it would be the fuel but it is spitting out gas. What other ideas can we try?
