2002 Cadillac Escalade hesitates and makes a sound when you turn the steering wheel as far as it will go to the right or to the left. What could it be?

If it is a knocking noise, it sounds like the steering upper intermediate shaft. It can also make a knock that is felt in the stering wheel, when hitting bumps, braking, and turning.
