Spark plugs or head gasket

Our 2002, BMW 325i just hit 200k kms. Strted shaking with lots of thick, smelly smoke when starting. A day prior, a hose was fixed since it was leaking oil. Any ideas?

start with a compression test and a leak down test to verify a head gasket.

examine the plugs at this time to determine if they need to be replaced.
