Does it run hot in slow traffic, at highway speeds, or both? Does the electric radiator fan turn on? Could have a leaking head gasket. Radiator cooling fins could be rotting off or could be plugged with a bug collection. Radiator could be plugged. Really need more details to prevent guessing.

The thermostat is the least likely suspect and the last thing to try. You didn't answer any questions. What speeds does this occur at? Do you have a gauge on the dash that's reading "hot", or how do you know it's overheating? Does the electric fan turn on when it's hot?
