My friends car(Manuel) had a very burnt smell one night when we came home, ever since then changing gears has become increasingly difficult especially when coming in and out of reverse, the clutch when pushed all the way in still shows revs and feels loose. Also gear changing is normal when car is off, but when the engine is on it becomes near impossible shifting gears What is the problem and how expensive is the fix?

Check the clutch fluid in the clutch master cylinder. If it is low, fill it and see if that helps. Also, check for leaks from the MC as well as the slave cylinder on the transmission.

Is it a long lasting damage ? Or can it be fixed that simply.. The reason the clutch was burnt out is because she started her car in 4th gear. Thankyou for the help also

I didn't know that. However, one time shouldn't be that damaging. Check the fluid and let me know what you find. Based on your original description, it sounds like the problem is related to the hydraulics of the system.
