I have a 2001 Volvo S-60 2.4T with 175,000 miles that needs a new engine. An oil leak led to engine failure.

The body and everything else on the car is in good to very good condition. Is it worth it to have the engine replaced or am I better off selling the car for parts?

If it makes sense to replace the engine what should the cost of replacement be for a new engine? new used engine??

Thank you for your help.

This will depend on how much you want your car, and your current economic situation.

You can come out cheaper by buying a used engine (50,000 mi) for around 1,000 and paying the same for install. If you want a new engine, you'll pay around 3,500 and 1000 for install.

If you buy used, make sure you buy from someone with a good rep. And make sure they give you verification of miles in writing and warranty
