my 2001 Astra made a screeching noise when i switched off last run out. The noise came from the engine bay and was very brief. Is there any need for concern?

Abnormal noises should always be looed at, especially if it is engine related. A screechning noise can mean a loose belt or a failing bearing and I would suggest checking the drive belts tension and condition for a start.

Took the car to the garage and it requires a new starter and a new ignition switch. The car was completely dead when the ignition was turned but the electrics were fine etc. Thanks for the reply
