2001 Toyota Tundra transmission

recently aquired a toyota tundra that was running but would not engage in any gear i replaced it with a transmission from another truck and i have got the same problem the gear shifter will move but the truck will not made a whirring noise when i started after filling the trans but i havent heard it again any advice

make sure trans is full of fluid and scan for codes then have a trans guy look at it.
