2001 Toyota 4x4 truck mileage: 108,000. I have a high-pitched metallic chattering coming from the front of my engine. It gets louder with Rpms and when the clutch is depressed, it quiets right up. It does not sound internal but sounds as if it is coming from the fan belt area. I originally thought it was the water pump and replaced it. Not so. It may be the fuel pump but I can't isolate it. Any suggestions?

Hello,

Since the noise goes away when you depress the clutch pedal, it is a good chance the issue is clutch related.

Does this noise exist when you are in neutral and apply throttle?
Are you experiencing any issue with the clutch?

If the issue only exists when in gear and goes away in neutral or when the clutch is disengaged, that points to the noise being from the clutch.

It is possible to have a malfunctioning pressure plate or bearing that is causing the noise.

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
