2001 Toyota Celica Random stalls

one day I was driving my car, and after getting off the interstate, it randomly died. Not starting up for about another hour, it ran perfectly great until It randomly died again 3 hours later. it cranks over, and if you start it long enough It will run at very very low rpm roughly. My mechanic said its possibly a bad crankshaft sensor , but It does indeed crank over. Any possibilities? Maybe a bad battery? Thanks!

A crank sensor sends crankshaft position info to the ecu this is on of the input signals needed to run the engine, if this sensor or others are faulty they should set a fault code, if so, a scan will identify these codes so I would suggest that you first get a scan done to see if any codes are set.
