I pulled my head unit out, cut the cords to tape them, i was using a light tester to see whitch radio cord was power, but i had to check and see if the light worked first, so i grounded it to a both in the car, and stuck it in my cigeratte lighter, and everything shut off. My windows wont roll up, wipers, blinkers, a/c, heat, cruise control, and my gear shift is locked unless i hit the button to unlock it. Coudl it be my alternator, or alternator fuse? it starts, but nothing works. power steering still works and head lights and tail lights. but nothing else

Check the mains fuses and fusible links underhood. You have shorted the circuit by your actions and blown a fuse somewhere.
