2001 Toyota Avalon inside door latch

The latch in the door does not lock. What I mean its the latch were it locks around the medal. The drivers side back door

check to see if lock is working in door. if you can't close the door stick a screwdriver in the latch and press outward and try to open door then the latch shold open then close the door and see if it works ok.
