my two front tires are getting pretty bald on one side and look almost new on the other the bald side still has a little tread. Less shwab says the won't rotate them and do an alignment. Can i rotate them myself and have someone else do the alignment or will that mess with the alignment too much.

You need to elaborate a little. You have an alignment problem now, so why won't they align the vehicle? Rotating tires doesn't affect or change the alignment but you will wear out the next tires the same way.
