When I shift into Reverse, there are no reverse lights but the gear does engage. what is the problem?

Do you have a manual or automatic transmission?Also do you have a multimeter?

It is a manual transmission. I am unsure if I have a multimeter

A mulimeter is a volt meter that also tests ohms etc?I figured its a stick under the master cylinder area you will see a connector on the transmission shift tower unplug the connector.Then jump the two terminals together then turn your key to the run position are the back up lights on?

when i took off the center console and saw the two gear cables, there was no other connector on the actual gear shifter. the gears are laid out to where the R is far bottom right. I can look under the car at the transmission, I just don't know where to look. I heard something about having a back-up switch that is not engaged.

Iam talking about under the hood bellow your brake master cylinder area.Its where the cables go on the transmission.Let me know what you find.
