2001 Pontiac Grand Prix Windshield Wipers Stop Upright Position Turned Off

My windshield wipers stop in an upright position when turned off instead of park position. Other than that they work fine what should I check first

The self park switch which is built into the wiper motor has failed, i feel that you will require a new wiper motor.
