This just started happening on my 2001 Firebird. When I lock the car the alarm sets and I get the standard 2 quick beeps of the horn. Now, about 5 seconds after the 2 beeps the horn blows twice real loud.

System is self-diagnostic so a scan of the BCM will reviel faults. Then post will advise as to repair

Been thinking. The purpose of this forum is to avoid high shop costs. Most places charge between 30 and 45 dollars to run this scan. If they do the repair work they usually remove the scan charge. At any rate, taking my car to the shop pretty much defeats the purpose of this forum.

Check for loose wires on all door switches. This includes the hood and trunk. What other alarming points are there on the alarm? Glass break? Mass differential? Motion? Impact? Check all of them. The system is telling you that one of the sensors is faulty.

Thanks, I will do that. For the time being though, I downloaded an owners manual and was able to reprogram the alarm system. I had to turn off the door lock notification, now the horn just chirps once when I lock or unlock the doors.

If I recall correctly, that's because of the modification to the arming and security system. Do the dome lights work properly on the car? On with door open, off with door closed? If not, you've found your problem.

We do try to save people money by avoiding costly repair services and unnecessary repairs. Most handheld scanners don't scan the BCM. Finding the trouble codes is the best way to diagnose the problem. Some major auto parts will scan your car for free hoping to sell you the parts once you know what is malfunctioning. Call around to see if any of your local stores or mechanics will scan it for free.
