After starting the car and running it for a few minutes, the engine would (once in a while) start revving by itself. I have a 2001 Corsa B 1600i with the following problem. After starting the car and running it for a few minutes, the engine would (once in a while) start revving by itself.

When I stop and depress the clutch, the revs will vary between 2000+ RPM and 1000 RPM. The revs will rise and fall continuously, until I switch of the ignition and restart the car - then all stays well for the rest of the day. The temperature in our environment (South Africa)is between 20 and 40 degrees Celsius.

I have tried the following to rectify the problem, with no luck: Lubricated the links and moving parts including the petrol cable. Removed and cleaned the idle control valve, removed and cleaned the air censor in the air duct. I used carburetor cleaner to clean everything.
Please help!!

Have it scanned for both hard and soft codes. Check and clean the EGR valve.
