whenever car temperature guage reaches normal(half-way on guage) and the A/C is turned on, the guage rises and car shuts down with the eng alarm coming on. If before the car shuts down i turn the A./C off, the temperature guage goes back to normal. what can be the problem?

When the AC is used, do the cooling fans come on?
