Just died, totally. Pulled over. When attempt to start something engages with a high whine, over and over, but does not sound like actual "cranking over." I have a mp3 file of the sound. Nothing else. Checked fuses as best I could be not a complete survey as manual and markings on fuse covers is incomplete.

If the engine is not cranking over then the starter drive on starter is probably shot and you are hearing just the starter engaging and turning over. It will kind of whine then slow down as you let off the key because the drive isn't touching flywheel. This usually comes with a new/rebuilt starter see pic

I forgot in last reply scan for codes and check fuel pressure with a gauge as well as the pump may have quit so car quit running. Auto parts rent gauge should be 39psi at idle w/vacuum and 47-50 without

I don't think it's a starter issue. Why would the car be running along fine at 70 mph and then just stop if it was the starter? I think it may be more fuel related. How can I send you a Mp3 recording of the sound when the key is turn to the start position?

Reread second reply, I said the starter because you said it's not turning over or cranking. Second reply states to check fuel pressure and scan for codes.
